The passing of Harry Leland Bowker, a resident of Salem, Ohio, occurred without incident on October 19, 2023, at the Allay Senior Care facility located in Lisbon, Ohio.
Harry Leroy Bowker and Katherine Irene Herrold Bowker gave birth to him on November 18, 1935, and throughout his life, Harry shown an unshakeable dedication to his family, community, and career. Harry was born on November 18, 1935. Harry was a proud alumnus of Goshen High School, and he continued his education at Kent State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business.
His scholastic accomplishments served as the cornerstone for a fruitful career that spanned several decades and brought him much success. After beginning his career at First National Bank, Harry eventually became a federal inspector for the Office of Thrift Supervision, where he served until his retirement. His coworkers held a high regard for his work ethic and ethics, and he was a source of motivation for a great number of people.
Harry served his country with honor in the United States Army Reserves, rising to the rank of Sergeant. He devoted a substantial portion of his life to serving his country, and as a result, he retained the self-discipline and resiliency he gained during this period throughout the rest of his existence. Harry was a man with diverse abilities and passions throughout life. The fact that he remained a member of Elks Lodge 305 for his entire life is evidence of his dedication to helping others and maintaining friendships.
Harry’s other interest was music, and he demonstrated his skills as a musician by singing, playing the guitar, and playing the trombone. His enthusiasm for music was contagious, and he frequently made use of it as a vehicle for spreading happiness to those in his immediate environment. Harry’s retirement years were spent working as a part-time auctioneer, which brought him great satisfaction.
Because of his magnetic personality and quick wit, he quickly became a favorite in the neighborhood and the town. In spite of the many pursuits and obligations he had, Harry prioritized spending time with his family because they were the most important thing in his life. Martha Pearl Bowker, his devoted wife of 64 years, whom he wed on May 23, 1959, is the only person Harry leaves behind after his death.
Along with his wife, Harry is predeceased by his children, Arthur Bowker of Berea and Bonnie (Greg) Buthker of Brookville. His grandchildren, Scotty (Liz) Buthker, Mark Bowker, and Stephanie (Mark) Burilson, will miss both his love and his wisdom. Scarlett, Rayland, Vivian, Margaret, Owen, Felicity, Tori, and Sophia, together with the seventh great-grandchild that is on the way, will carry on Harry’s family name and ensure that his legacy endures for generations to come.
