Mickey Guyette Obituary, Death – On September 29, 2012, Leo George Guyette, who resided in Hortonville and was 82 years old, passed away at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Appleton from his illness. In Shiocton, he was born on February 6, 1930. His parents, George Guyette and Magel (Bradley) Guyette, both passed away before his birth. It was at the School of Liberty Bell in Shiocton that he received his higher education.
St. Denis Catholic Church in Shiocton was the location of his wedding to Phyllis Larsen, which took place on November 4, 1950. After some time, they moved to the Hortonville area. Following a number of years spent working at Appleton Rendering Company, Leo moved on to acquire his own company, the Black Otter Hotel, in 1972. He and his wife, Phyllis, managed the establishment until 1985, when they sold it to their family so that they could continue to run it.
The Spirit Shop Liquor Store in Hortonville was another business that they managed. During the time that they were running the Dugout Restaurant and Bar, which they had purchased in November of 1985 and continued to run until they sold it to their daughter in July of 1995, Leo continued to assist in the preparation of his signature soups, which were a hit with everyone. In addition to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, Leo enjoyed spending time with his dog Whiski, watching all sports, but college football in particular, visiting the deer farm, and most of all, he enjoyed going out to dine with members of his family.
